James M. Stephens2Florida 4-H Horticulture Identification and Judging Study Manual: Vegetables (4H PSJ 24) is a plant science judging manual for members of all ages. This is just one part of a five part study guide for the Horticulture and Identification and Judging Contest. The other publications available that work in conjunction with this judging manual are the Rules and Glossary (4H PSJ 20), Flowers and Foliage Plants (4H PSJ 21), Fruits and Nuts (4H PSJ 22), and Ornamentals (4H PSJ 23). There is also a 4-H Horticulture Identification Score Sheet (4H PSJ 25) available on EDIS.
There are 45 vegetables you should know in preparing for the 4-H Horticulture Contest. Each has been selected based on its popularity as an item in gardens, fields, and/or market places throughout the state. Each is listed alphabetically according to its common name. The scientific name is included to establish a positive identity and for reference purposes.
