ENH1268: Monitoring Leaching Fraction for Irrigation Scheduling in Container Nurseries

Figure 3. Micro-irrigated plants can be placed on a pizza pan raised several inches off the ground with pieces of 4x4 inch lumber. A drain hole punched out of the pizza pan allows leachate to drain into a tray for weighing. An emitter from an adjacent container is placed in a pail to determine the irrigation amount applied. This setup can remain in the field to facilitate routine testing. We often place a cover over the tray when collecting leachate during multiple irrigation cycles.
