The International Agricultural Trade and Development Center1

Kamal Dow2

This center is housed in the Food and Resource Economics Department. Its main purposes are to conduct timely research on a broad range of trade related issues and disseminate results to interested citizens. The Center examines current and emerging issuses, agreements, policies and regulations both domestic and foreign and assess their impact upon Florida competitiveness in international markets for agricultural, forestry and marine products. Further, the Center considers the distribution of economic effects among the various producing and consuming sectors.

The Center works closely with business and industry groups, as well as with state and federal agencies, to assure that research is responsive to priority needs, and that results are properly disseminated.

Center projects are conducted by professional agricultural economists with vast domestic and international experience, and with the cooperation of the other IFAS scientific personnel when required.

The Center is authorized to conduct studies for specific clientele groups and organizations. Although professional time and certain support is provided at no charge, clients may be required to pay some direct costs such as travel, extra personnel, data processing, etc. All results, however, must be made available to the public.
