Coyotes

Relative newcomers to Florida, coyotes (Canis latrans) are members of the dog family, referred to as the American jackal, brush wolf, or prairie wolf. They are now found in every county of Florida and range throughout North America and much of Central America. They play an important role in ecosystems and food webs.

Herpetofauna

Although reptiles and amphibians are distant relatives on the tree of life, they are often found together due to the similar habitats they occupy. Collectively, reptiles (i.e., lizards, turtles, snakes, and crocodylians) and amphibians (i.e., frogs, salamanders, and the eel-like caecilians) are called herpetofauna, herptiles, or herps. [UW517]
